2009 GMC Yukon 1500 Hybrid 4WD – Will SUV’s be eligible for Tax Rebates?
GMC’s new 2009 GMC Yukon 1500 hybrid will likely be eligible for a hybrid tax rebate on SUV’s worth 2,200 dollars - however the new numbers have yet to be released. The hybrid rebate is the same between the 2WD and 4WD in the current 2008 tax credit, so it is not a far stretch to assume that the 2009 will be the same. The vehicle comes with an advanced switching capability enabling it to use both electric and gasoline power, and has an advantage of nearly 20 miles to the gallon over its non hybrid cousins (which average 13 miles a gallon).
The hybrid rebates program was created to boost energy savings and conservation, while also helping the technology along by making consumers buy more hybrids. As it stands the Yukon has yet to sell 60,000 units, and is still eligible for hybrid tax rebates until December of 2010.
In the Yukon’s ever advancing control systems the computer is more advanced than previous models, and includes many monitoring programs that go on without the driver noticing. It insures that the electric and gas powered motors work together, using the 6 liter V-8 engine capable of fuel management and running as a V-4 to save on gasoline, along with using two 60kW variable electric motors that function at all speeds.
The overall output is past 320 horsepower, and can accelerate silently on just the electric alone. Most of the energy that the batteries charge on is from breaking or cruising. The energy is stored in a 300-volt rechargeable battery system which can be accessed under the passenger side seating. The overall price of the Yukon is around 50,000 US dollars, which with the hybrid tax rebates for the SUV will take off 2,200 in the form of income tax credits.
