The Honda CR-Z is a new line of vehicle released in 2010 by Honda, and is a three door hatchback, that comes equipped with a continuously variable transmission, or a 6 speed manual transmission. The engine is an inline-4, with Honda’s own Integrated Motor Assist electric hybrid system. CR-Z stands for 'Compact Renaissance Zero which contains Honda's gasoline-hybrid engine.
Although it is designed like a sports car, its main purpose is to provide a vehicle that the consumer will consider “fun to drive” while also being economical. As this is a new model from Honda it may qualify for a 2011 federal tax credit, however little is known about exactly what the Honda CR-Z can qualify for.
Honda had been tight lipped about many of the statistics for this vehicle (scheduled for Fall 2010) and whether or not there will be an effort to really sell this vehicle in the United States, even though it will be available, in 2010, as most marketing seems geared to the European and Japanese car consumers. This can be explained due to friction in the U.S. Honda offices (the vehicle almost never made it).
It was not until this January that the model was actually shown at the NAIAS in Detroit, Michigan. The initial release in Japan has gone well, however, with 7,000 orders in the first two weeks and a reported average of 60 miles per gallon, although other figures put this at just below 40 miles per gallon, and has already reached 60% of Honda’s own sales target for this year.
The Honda CR-Z starting price is 19,200 US and is rated 35 City and 39 Highway mileage. Sharp and sporty .. possibly wander down to your Honda dealer and check out the new 2011 Honda CR-Z.
